Do you need a certificate for exporting animals abroad?

Are you going with your pet to an international animal show? Or maybe, have you decided to spend your vacation with your four-legged friend? You should think in advance about the preparation of documentation allowing exporting animals abroad.

The first item on the list of documents will be a certificate confirming, the effectiveness of rabies vaccination. List of countries for which a certificate is required (link).

To get a certificate for exporting animals abroad, it is necessary to make the antibody titer test to rabies virus, which is performed by the antirabies laboratory of NoviStem LLC.

  • 1Requirements to testing
    • The analysis is performed not earlier than 30 days after the last vaccination against rabies and not later than 2 months before the expiration of the vaccination;
    • The animal must be chipped;
    • The age of the pet must be at least 4 months;
    • An international veterinary passport must be available (the name of the owner and the name of the animal must be filled in English).
    • The antibody titer in the animal blood serum should be at least 0.5 IU/ml. In case of a lower value of the antibody titer to rabies virus, it is necessary to re-vaccinate the animal, after which, at least 30 days later, repeat the test.
  • 2Requirements to sample
    • The serum is taken for the examination (at least 1 ml volume), which is obtained after taking blood in disposable tubes without anticoagulant;
    • Blood serum should be transparent, light to straw yellow colour;
    • The tube material is plastic, with a sealed cap;
    • The name of the animal must be indicated on the test tube.
  • 3Requirements for accompanying documents
    • Appointment to the examination (in English and Russian, in printed form or by hand in block letters) should be filled in by the doctor (or the owner of the animal) based on the pet passport;
    • Copies of all completed pages of the pet passport;
    • A copy of the owner’s foreign travel passport.
  • 4Storage and Transportation Requirements
    • The maximum term of serum storage at a temperature of +4°C ... +8°C is not more than 2 days;
    • If it is necessary to store it more than 2 days, the serum is frozen at a temperature of -20°C;
    • Blood serum should not be thawed during storage and transportation.
  • 5NOT ACCEPTED for the analysis
    • Whole blood or samples mixed with blood corpuscles;
    • Blood serum with severe hemolysis (dark red);
    • Cloudy blood serum, with sediment and foul odor.

How to get a certificate?

You can receive a certificate confirming the effectiveness of vaccination of an animal against rabies virus by:

  • Russian Post (at the nearest post office);
  • Express delivery by courier (at the expense of the recipient);
  • At a sample collection office or at a partner clinic in your city.
